College Workshops and Shows

Bring us to your college for comedy, dance and storytelling as a means to laughter, community, connection and more.

Our workshops are a combination of theater games, storytelling, and dance-making (no training or technique required). Participants develop characters and form dance squads with whom they create dances based on flavors of ice cream, memes, personal stories, and more.

Following the workshop, we have a “Dancify That!” show. Audiences for the show can be invite only, or open to the public and are a celebration of the insane fun there is to be had with a comedic interpretive dance battle. If you’re unfamiliar with our regular theater show, check out that promo video here for the vibe we’ll bring.

Testimonials

“I do not consider myself a “dancer” by any means. However, the games, activities and exercises Billy and his crew had us doing helped me shed my self-consciousness have a blast. I’d never thought as dance as an activity or thing to do outside of weddings and clubs. This was really different and super fun.”
- Derrick T., Student

“The students love this workshop and the participation grows every year. The focus on play and good natured competition helps build community, and gives students an outlet to make bold choices in a safe space. The spirit of fun, and need to commit quickly and wholeheartedly has lead to daring performances by even the most self-conscious students. I have clearly witnessed the students’ confidence grow with their participation in Dancify That.”

— Amy Larimer, Director of the Dance Program, Lehman College

Details

What: A cheeky dance workshop and show inspired by professional wrestling, Drag Race, and (the usually very serious art form of) dance theater. The show is open to the whole student body and contestants will be dancers from the earlier workshop.

Where: Your college! We come to you and can work in a variety of settings (classrooms, community rooms, theaters, rehearsal spaces, cafeterias? We’re flexible.)

Pricing: Depends on whether you bring just Billy or the whole posse. We have packages ranging from $400 to $5000 depending on the number of facilitators, number of days, and and whether you’d like a culminating show that everyone can invite their friends to at the of the workshop (We recommend this. It’s fun for everyone).

Who is it for? We can gear this towards students who are not performers (just want to have fun, make new friends) as well as dance or theater students who are already comfortable on stage and looking for a unique way to exercise their craft.

Dancify workshops draw on the disciplines of physical theater, clown, character work (think SNL), dance/dance theater, improv, and storytelling. These disciplines can be approached with great rigor and attention to the concerns of a person looking to be a pro, but they can also just be a lot of fun. Mostly, we do this for fun. It’s an awesome way to connect with other people. Think about the game “Mafia” or Charades. People sitting around playing games always involves a degree of theatrics. We do something similar with dance.

Duration: We offer 1 to 3 day experiences. For example:

1 Day: Workshop from 10am-1pm, Show from 6:30pm-8:30pm.
2 Day: 2 Workshop Sessions: 10 am-1pm, 3pm-5pm. Show the next day 7:30pm-9pm.
3 Day: 2 Days of Workshops followed the next day with a show.

Tech Requirements: For the show, it’s best to have a space with theater lighting and a sound system. We run sound from a laptop and prefer to use your sound system since traveling with speakers is cumbersome (but we can provide).
